Designing a mixed-media patio featuring a central field of Oklahoma flagstone bordered by antique granite cobblestones provides a distinct multi-texture aesthetic. Select small rounded granite cobblestones and larger flat flagstone slabs, planning the perimeter boundary layout before starting hardscaping work. Dig a deep perimeter trench for the cobblestones, setting them firmly in a lean concrete footing to lock the exterior frame in place. Fill the interior center expanse with graded sand and lay the flagstone slabs tightly against the inner cobblestone border. Fill all wide stone joints with gray polymeric sand to prevent weed growth and shifting. This practical upgrade highlights the patio floor boundaries, adds polished functional character, and provides durable drainage channels around the main seating zone.
