Diagonal Dutch braids offer a classic, highly durable protective option that incorporates colorful wooden beads for an audible, playful finish. Part damp, detangled hair straight down the middle to form two equal left and right halves, then divide each half diagonally from temple to nape. Apply a generous layer of conditioning butter along the parts to keep the hair smooth and manageable throughout the styling process. Construct a Dutch braid on each section by weaving three strands underneath one another along the scalp, keeping your hands close to the head for neatness. Once the braid leaves the scalp, continue three-strand braiding down to the ends, leaving two inches of unbraided hair. Thread three colorful wooden beads onto each braid end using a bead loader tool, securing the bottom bead with a folded rubber band anchor.
