Setup Method
Replacing traditional closet doors with a decorative drywall archway and heavy blackout portiere curtains introduces a soft, regal entry to your hidden nook. Frame the top of the closet doorway with a curved drywall arch kit, sanding and painting the transition to match the surrounding room walls. Inside the closet, install built-in wrap-around shelving made from warm oak veneer, leaving a central recessed area for a deep armchair or padded bench. Mount a flexible ceiling-mounted curtain track directly behind the drywall arch, hanging heavy, floor-length velvet curtains that slide completely shut. Mount a dimmable warm-gold reading sconce inside the nook, lining the walls with soft acoustic wall panels to dampen outside noise. Drawing the curtains closed creates an acoustic, private reading sanctuary that stays hidden behind lush fabric folds when not in use.
