Crafting a faux mercury glass hurricane jar adds a luxurious, reflective metallic element to dark seasonal interior displays. Mix equal parts water and white vinegar in a small fine-mist spray bottle, lightly spritzed onto the interior walls of a clean glass jar. Immediately spray a light layer of metallic mirror finish paint directly over the wet vinegar beads inside the jar. Allow the paint to sit for one minute before gently blotting the wet areas with a crumpled paper towel to remove paint spots, creating a pitted, vintage metallic patina. Repeat the process with a secondary coat of dark gold spray paint to fill in the blotted gaps with warm metallic depth. When illuminated by an interior flameless candle, the antiqued metallic coating reflects light through the translucent distressed spots.
